The Infant Learner

Some stuff I read this week:

A.  This week’s Special

( Lesson from fall of SunEdison)

SunEdison incorporation, the fastest-growing U.S. renewable energy company, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday. Company was expanding its capacity through acquisitions and aggressive biding, including in India, where last year it won a solar project in Andhra Pradesh state by offering to sell power at record low prices. Company made 9 acquisitions in 2014 and 15 acquisitions in 2015, according to market research Factset. Company use debt as a major source to finance its acquisitions. As on Sept 30 company had $9.8 billion is in debt and total assets of $ 20.7 billion. As Mr. Buffett once said about debt:
“If you’re smart you don’t need it and if you’re dumb you got no business using it.”
Limiting mistakes is crucial. While mistakes are inevitable, it’s always productive to study your own mistakes as well as the mistakes of others to try and glean lessons that might help you become a little closer to mastering this negative art. As Mr. Munger said
” All I want to know is where I am going to die, so I will never go there”.

“I read everything: annual reports, 10k’s, 10q’s, biographies, histories, five newspapers a day. On airplanes, I read the instructions on the backs of seats. Reading is key. Reading has made me rich over time” – Warren Buffett

“I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you” – Charlie Munger
